Email Phishing Scams

We recently received an email from an eBay member (orangeplymouth70) claiming that he's got problem with payment to our Paypal account.

The content already sounded fishy as we did not receive any notification from eBay on any winning buyers in the first place.

We confirmed that there was no such message from eBay via their website and continued with our investigation to see where this scammer was trying to lead us to.

On his email, which looked exactly like one that was being sent by eBay, there was a RESPOND button and upon clicking it, we were directed to a eBay-look-a-like website asking for our login information.  We realised then that it was a bogus site as the redirected address read:

//sign-in-ehaysugeotoata-com.land.ru/ehayISAPIdllSignInruhttAwwwehaycomtrksidm378.html

This is to share with all that scammers are lurking around us on the net, and their ways of deceiving us are getting more and more sophisticated.

As such, please be careful while you are on the net and look out for tell-tale signs like below:

1. Emails from eBay, PayPal or Banks would address us personally with proper identifications, such as our ID that we created while we sign-in or our personal name and NEVER - Dear Member:

2. NEVER Login via an email link as this is how scammers would get our personal info by leading us to a bogus site.

3. Personal Emails or Messages from eBay, PayPal or Banks will also be reflected after you login to your account.  Therefore, there's no need to click on the email message link and ALWAYS confirm by logging into your account.

4. ALWAYS check on the address bar to confirm if you were redirected to another website, as in above example, ebay => ehay.....

This list is not exhaustive and we'll keep posting the new scams as they come along.

The said website had since been taken down, and now it's redirecting to a site in Russia.

Wonder if the scammers are from Russia this time?
