Trivia fact:
The sound for the Tie Fighters during the Star Wars Trilogy was created by combining sounds of a car driving on wet pavement with that of an screaming Elephant!
Tie Fighter
The same mold was utilized for this version as the original Imperial Tie Fighters. Virtually all Tie Fighters had only a small amount of shielding to protect them from blasts. This made them very susceptible to destruction from enemy Fighter crafts. Throughout the Star Wars Trilogy, Tie Fighters were seen, especially hovering around the Death Star Space Station.
Specialized racks on the Star Destroyers were where they launched from during standard operating proceedures. The Missle Tubes had to be added as deemed necessary. An example of this is when the Admirals of the Imperial Navy determined the priority or safety of a large convoy during a mission.
Tie Fighters were a very important aspect in the following skirmishes:
-
Battle of Yavin
-
Battle of Hoth
-
Battle of Endor
The Emperor was always
given top priority and all of Tie Fighters escorting him would have the
additional missle tubes installed. They were designed structually to
support their weight on their wings and had no landing gear. The
hexagonial six sided large panels were not Solar Panels as a lot of
people were led to believe but Radiation Panels.
