Star Wars Expanded Universe Action Figures

The Kenner Corporation first attempted to introduce a small line of character from Star Wars not directly related to the films and based on the cartoon series of the Droids and Ewoks . Two crossover characters remained popular: A-Wing Pilot and Boba Fett the Bounty Hunter. Hasbro did the same in 1996 with the Shadows of the Empire action figure line whch was part of a multimedia project which included a novel, Nintendo 64/PC Game and Comic Books by Dark Horse Comics.

1998 marked Hasbro's return to the Expanded Universe of novels, games and comics which mixed both characters that were well known and characters from other media. Hasbro switched the packaging from Freeze Frame Action Slides tocards which could pop out to open three dimensional scenes where one could place the characters. The backs had small slits for this very creative idea.

Action Figures:

Dark Empire (Comic Book Series)
  • Clone Emperor
  • Imperial Sentinel
  • Luke Skywalker
  • Leia Organa Solo
  • Dark Forces (Video Game)
  • Imperial Dark Trooper
  • Kyle Katarn
Heir to the Empire (Thrawn Novels)
  • Grand Admiral Thrawn
  • Mara Jade
  • Imperial Space Trooper

Spaceships and Vehicles:

  • Expanded Universe Airspeeder
  • Expanded Universe Cloud Car
  • Expanded Universe Speeder Bike

     Imperial Sentinel

Imperial Sentinels were responsible for guarding the reborn clone Emperor's citadel on planet Byss. Planet Byss is in the outer regions of space. These armored cloaked warriors stood guard with their Pole-Axes.  Little is known of their origin and some speculate that they are cyborgs or perhaps droids created by an ancient race of beings unknown.

Imperial Spacetrooper

Imperial Spacetroopers also known as Zero-G Stormtroopers launch attacks on other spaceships. They wear special spacesuits which are equipped with armor and can tolerate the cold vacuum of space. Stormtroopers start their intensive training on the Imperial facility of Carida and are very loyal to Emperor Palpatine.

Kyle Katarn

Kyle Katarn's last name comes from the Katarn which is a predator animal who lives on Chewbacca the Wookies home planet of Kashyyk. He was educated at the Imperial Academy located on Carida. His home planet of Sulon was attacked and this is where his father was killed. His father was a supporter of the Rebellion. A decorated soldier who led numerous missions against the Rebels.

He earned the Imperial Medal Of Valor after leading a succesful assault on AX-456 which was the stronghold of a Rebel Communnications Center responsible for transmitting anti-Imperial propoganda to other planets. He learned from a secret Imperial Intelligence double agent that his father was killed for treason. He freed Jan Ors, the double agent who introduced Kyle to Mon Mothma, the leader of the Rebel Alliance.

Princess Leia Organa

This was the first and only time that Princess Leia Organa was featured as a Jedi Knight married to Captain Han Solo.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

Mitth'raw'nuruodo is the actual name of Grand Admiral Thrwan and few know this secret. Emperor Palpatine did not have a fondness for women and non-human officers. As a result, he was sent to the Unknown Regions. Upon returning, he discovered that the Empire was fragmented and he reunited the Empire.

Thrawn had a goal which was to reclaim Coruscant as an Imperial stronghold. He nearly reached his goal but was killed by a Noghri bodyguard. Thrawn always had a Ysalamiri creature which was gently perched on him wrapped around his neck which could render the "Force" useless. He studied the art work and forms of civilizations for he believed that by studying their art, one would learn about their strategies in battle.

Rebel Speeder Bike

Utilizing the designs of the Art of Star Wars sketchbooks, Kenner produced this Rebel Speeder Bike with Rebel Speeder Bike Pilot. This design was based on a prototype which was not utilized in the film.

Rebel Speeder Bike (Loose)

As of December 2006, three reprinted Classic Star Wars Comic Books were sold along with characters from the film.
