Recently a great interest has been generated in what is kosher and how healthy is kosher food. Some of this interest has arisen due to Kevin Trudeau’s new book on weight loss (ASK ME HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE ORIGINAL REPORT OF THIS DIET FOR FREE. THE REPORT IS A 1930s STUDY ON WEIGHT LOSS WHICH IS THE BASIS FOR TRUDEAU'S ENTIRE BOOK). So...
What exactly is kosher and is it
healthy?
Before I get into details, I should first point out that when I say KOSHER, I am referring specifically to meat and meat by products. While it is true that THOUSANDS of kosher food products are sold which do not contain any meat by products, these can be measured if they are healthy by normal standards, ie if they contain trans fats, chemicals, preservatives sugars, diet sweeteners etc. While these kinds of products may be kosher and have Rabbinical supervision to insure that no non kosher ingredients come into the final product, the health value of such products is NOT endorsed by any Rabbinical group. Free choice is given to the consumer to buy or not to buy such products. So in such cases Kosher DOES NOT mean necessarily HEALTHY!
Kosher meat however is another issue. How? Who? Why? What? Makes kosher meat kosher and is it healthy?
Kosher meat is based upon the Biblical commandment in Leviticus 11–15 to eat certain kind of animals; those that chew their cud and have split hoofs.
BUT it doesn’t stop just by the Bible
proclaiming these types of animals as KOSHER. One must MAKE THEM kosher by
slaughtering them in a way that has been passed down from Moses and the Prophets of the Bible,
and to Orthodox Jews today who are their descendants. This process is called
Shechita (ie to make ritually fit) and involves a series of laws which are to
be followed to the letter by a trained slaughterer. Any deviation from this time
treasured PAINLESS method renders the animal unfit or non-kosher EVEN if the
animal was one of the “kosher” animals described in the Bible as kosher. So if you go to the supermarket and purchase chicken or red meat, it does NOT mean it is KOSHER according to Jewish Biblical law. Moslems by the way do NOT follow this method of slaugher and although they can eat kosher
meat, Jews cannot eat Muslim meat since it is NOT kosher even though the animal
is one of the "clean" animals which are "kosher" to be eaten (except of course
for camel which Muslims eat as well and is NOT kosher according to he
Jewish Bible).
After an animal is slaughtered according to Biblical
Rabbinic law (it’s one and the same) it has to be checked for any signs of
internal disease. The Rabbi’s from the times of the Prophets received a
tradition as to which diseases and lesions inside the animal render it unfit,
ie NOT kosher. A cow that has mad cow disease for example would NEVER pass this
kosher test and therefore if one wants to make sure that he has a 0% percent of
getting infected by this and many other meat related diseases should switch his
dietary intake of meat to kosher meat exclusively. Because kosher DOES mean
HEALTHY after the meat has been checked according to Jewish law. It is for this
reason that many health practitioners (such as Kevin Trudeau in his diet book)
promote eating kosher meat. It IS healthier & cleaner than any other meat
that is sold on the market today (once it goes through the checking process of
the rabbinical supervisors).
